A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a remote server, hiding your online activity from your internet provider and making tracking significantly harder. It's useful for protecting your connection on public Wi-Fi networks, bypassing censorship and geographic restrictions, and adding an extra layer of privacy to your browsing in general.

A word of caution though: a VPN doesn't make you invisible and it isn't a magic solution. You're simply shifting trust from your internet provider to your VPN provider. That's why choosing the right provider matters enormously. Be wary of free VPNs that promise miracles: if the service is free, you're probably the product. The best VPNs are those with verified no-log policies backed by independent audits, headquartered in countries with privacy-friendly legislation.

That said, trustworthy free VPNs do exist — usually offered as limited versions of paid services. They come with restrictions on speed or data volume, but for occasional use they're perfectly adequate and infinitely better than no VPN at all on a public network.

Below you'll find both the paid VPNs we recommend and the free options we consider reliable. Every provider listed has been carefully selected for transparency and genuine respect for user privacy.
